TST BOCES District Superintendent Search Update

The search for a new District Superintendent is approaching its conclusion as TST BOCES enters the final stages of the selection process. According to search consultant Dr. Brian Hartwell, the Board of Education’s effort to fill the District Superintendent and CEO vacancy is progressing smoothly and remains on track for a June appointment, with the successful candidate starting in August.

Screening and Interview Process
Dr. Hartwell emphasized the efficiency of the search, noting the significant involvement of the board. "The board has dedicated substantial time to reviewing applications and credentials, as well as conducting several rounds of interviews with top candidates. This phase of the process is now complete," he explained. The Board of Education has selected the successful candidate, who met with the Commissioner of Education earlier this week.

Final Steps and Commissioner Involvement
The current stage involves the candidate meeting with Commissioner of Education, Dr. Betty A. Rosa. If Commissioner Rosa approves the Board’s selection, an Order to Appoint will soon follow directing the Board of Education to hire, noted Dr. Hartwell.  A tentative appointment date is slated for later this month.

Start Date and Negotiations
Dr. Hartwell emphasized that the process remains on schedule and anticipates the start date for the new District Superintendent to be on or about August 1st.

Public Announcement and Stakeholder Communication
Once the board receives the directive to hire, a special meeting will be announced to publicly appoint the new District Superintendent. Dr. Hartwell confirmed that an official announcement via press release will be made as the board appoints the new District Superintendent. "We will issue a press release as soon as the appointment is made by the board," he assured.

Community Engagement and Transparency
Dr. Hartwell commended the board for their diligent efforts and the successful execution of the search process. "Everything proceeded according to our plan, which is highly commendable," he remarked. The search garnered a considerable number of applicants, underscoring the attractiveness of the position. "We received applications in the double digits, necessitating thorough resume reviews and interviews. It's gratifying to have narrowed it down to one finalist," Hartwell remarked.

As the TST BOCES community eagerly awaits the final appointment, stakeholders can be confident in the board's commitment to securing the best leadership for TST’s future. The large number of applicants can be attributed to the confidential nature of the search process. This robust response indicates a strong interest in the position and ensures that the eventual chosen candidate will be highly qualified and well-suited for the role. The forthcoming announcement will mark a significant milestone in TST BOCES history, representing a decisive step forward in securing exceptional leadership for the institution for years to come.
